Surf Camps for Scandinavia
Trade the dark months for warm waves in Australia, Bali and Portugal.
Why Scandinavian travellers choose Mojosurf
Swedes, Danes and Norwegians make up about one in eight online bookings at our Australian camps. Many come on a working holiday or to escape the long Nordic winter.
- Surf camps and lessons since 1998, in 8 camps across Australia, Indonesia and Portugal
- Lessons and surf gear included on our learn-to-surf trips
- Easy to join solo, with a crew that surfs and socialises together
Already travelling in Australia?
Lots of Scandinavian guests book once they’ve landed. Spot X is on the east coast between Sydney and Byron Bay, so it fits into a road trip, and the Great Aussie Learn to Surf Adventure starts in Sydney.
Surf camps in Australia
Two camps on the New South Wales coast. Spot X sits on the beach at Arrawarra, in a marine park north of Coffs Harbour, with meals, cabins and tipis, and bonfire nights. Byron Bay is at the Arts Factory Lodge, a 10-minute walk from town, with a pool and hammocks. Both run learn-to-surf trips with lessons and boards included.
Surf camps in Bali & Beyond
Four camps across Indonesia: Canggu in Bali for cafés, beach clubs and nightlife, Nusa Lembongan a short boat ride away for clear water and diving, Kuta Lombok for an island east of Bali with dramatic scenery and varied breaks, and Red Island in East Java for uncrowded waves. Join one camp, or combine Canggu, Red Island and Nusa Lembongan on the 15 Day Island Hopper.
Surf camps in Portugal
Two camps on Portugal’s west coast. Ericeira is a World Surfing Reserve with the camp close to the town centre and its famous breaks. Peniche sits in Baleal, steps from the sand, on a stretch of coast with consistent waves all year.
Surf Academy: a gap year on the waves
Stay for 2 weeks to 3 months, surf every day and get coached properly. The Surf Academy runs at Spot X in Australia and in Indonesia, and the 3 month courses work towards a surf instructor qualification. Not sure yet? Start with the 14 Day Surf Academy Taster.
Planning your trip from Scandinavia
- Visas for Australia: Swedish, Danish, Norwegian and Finnish passport holders can apply for the Working Holiday visa (subclass 417). For a shorter trip, most visitors use an eVisitor. Check the Australian Department of Home Affairs website before you apply.
- Visas for Indonesia: a visa on arrival or e-VOA covers Scandinavian travellers for a 30-day stay, and Bali charges a separate tourist levy.
- Portugal: no visa needed, with direct flights to Lisbon from Copenhagen and Stockholm.
- When to go: Australia’s summer runs from December to February, just when the days are darkest at home. Bali’s dry season is from about April to October. Portugal’s waves are most consistent from autumn to spring.
Frequently asked questions
Is Mojosurf good for beginners?
Yes. Most trips are made for beginners and improvers, with lessons and surf gear included.
Which currency do I pay in?
Australian trips are booked in Australian dollars, Bali & Beyond trips in US dollars and Portugal trips in euros. Your bank converts the amount when you pay by card.
How long should I stay?
A week is enough to stand up and catch your own waves. Two weeks or more, or the Surf Academy, is where you really progress.
How far ahead should I book?
Many guests book a week or two ahead. Book earlier for December and January, and for Surf Academy start dates.
Can I combine camps?
Yes. Many guests surf in Australia, then spend a week or two in Bali, Lombok or Nusa Lembongan.
