Surf Lessons in Canggu, Bali
Learn to surf in Canggu with Mojosurf, from a few lessons with pick-up to a month at our Surf Academy.
How our surf lessons in Canggu work
Our surf school in Canggu is mobile. Instead of using the same beach every day, our instructors pick the best spot for learning on the day, depending on the conditions. Once you are there, we get you set up with a surfboard and a rash vest, then there is a quick stretch and a beach lesson before you hit the water.
Canggu has waves gentle enough for a first lesson and waves best left to experienced surfers, often only a short walk apart. Learners usually start at Batu Bolong or Old Man’s, where slow, rolling waves give long, forgiving rides when the swell is small. Our Canggu surf guide explains which break suits which level.
You need to be able to swim 50 metres unaided to join a lesson.

When to take surf lessons in Canggu
You can surf Canggu in any month. The dry season, April to October, has the most consistent swell, with the biggest waves from June to August, so beginners do best on the smaller days and with a guide. The wet season, November to March, has smaller, more variable surf, which often suits learners, and the water is at its warmest. See the best time to surf in Bali for a month-by-month guide.
Where you stay
Surf & Stay Bali, the 7 Day Canggu Surf Adventure and the start of the Surf Academy are all based at our Canggu surf camp, in the heart of Canggu and minutes from Echo Beach, with a pool, air-conditioned rooms and a Happy Hour every night. Torn between islands? Compare Canggu vs Lombok.
