Mojosurf’s Red Island surf camp is at Pulau Merah on the south coast of East Java, about seven hours from our Canggu camp by van and ferry. The wave breaks over sand, not reef, so learners can practise in the white water, and you stay in dorms or private bungalows a stone’s throw from the beach, with a pool.
Find your perfect wave at Mojosurf Camp Red Island, nestled across from a pristine white sand beach near a remote village. From gentle swells perfect for beginners and longboarders to epic barrels and shore breaks for seasoned surfers, Red Island offers a surf utopia with breathtaking landscapes to match.
Stay in cozy dorms or private Indonesian-style bungalows just steps from the beach, complete with amenities, fans, air-con, and Wi-Fi in common areas. After a day of riding the waves, unwind in a hammock under a palm tree with a cold beer or take a dip in the infinity pool overlooking one of the world’s most unspoiled beaches.
Mojosurf Camp Red Island is located across from a stunning white sand beach next to a remote village. You will pinch yourself when you’re surfing in the perfect, uncrowded waves surrounded by the most picturesque landscape. Due the shape of the coastline there is always a soft gentle wave for first time surfers or longboard lovers, with other spots on the beach offering unspoiled barrels and shore breaks for just you and your mates to share!
Red Island is the perfect place to immerse yourself in the surf lifestyle and escape from the rat race. Not only will our friendly crew help you with your surfing and share a few laughs, they will even cook you plenty of yummy local food and one of their legendary banana pancakes each morning!
Optional activities vary from day trips to the world-famous G-Land surf break where you can experience some of the best waves on the planet to nighttime Volcano treks to see the blue lava and witness an unforgettable sunrise.
The accommodation is situated a stones throw away from the beach, and offers both dorm options and private Indonesian-style bungalows. All with Western-style amenities, fans, air-con and Wi-Fi on offer in the common area. After surfing all day you can relax and unwind under a palm tree in a hammock with a cold beer or chill by the pool looking right next to one of the most untouched beaches in the world!
Our surf camp in Java sits at Red Island, or Pulau Merah, a wide bay on the south coast of East Java named after the small reddish hill of an island just offshore. Unlike most well-known waves in Indonesia, it breaks over sand and not reef, with peaks that break both left and right and walk-in access from the beach. Learners can stand in the shallows and practise in the white water before moving out to unbroken waves, and intermediate surfers have room to spread out along the bay.
The main swell season runs from May to November, and the bay is cleanest with wind from the north-east through to the south-east. Our transfer from Canggu leaves at 8am and takes about seven hours by van and ferry.

About seven hours by van and ferry from our Canggu camp. On the 7 Day Red Island Surf Trip the transfer leaves Canggu at 8am, drives to Gilimanuk, crosses by ferry to Java and continues by road to the camp. The Red Island Surf & Stay does not include transport.

The Red Island Surf & Stay starts at US$150 for 3 days and 2 nights, with daily breakfast and a surf lesson for each night. You can stay 3 to 6 days, and transport is not included. The 7 Day Red Island Surf Trip is US$581, including return transport from Canggu.
Optional activities include day trips to the G-Land surf break and night-time volcano treks to see the blue lava and the sunrise.
