- FEWER PEOPLE
Holidaymakers tend to all arrive in Byron for the warm summer weather. Fewer people in winter means more time riding rolling waves at the Pass.
Byron comes into its own in winter you can feel the vibration reconnect with the alternative hippy culture of yesteryear.
- SPLENDOUR IN THE GRASS – Keeps the vibes high
One of Australia’s best music festivals is on in deadset the middle of winter, there’s nothing better than good tunes, beers with mates, then blow off the cobwebs in the morning with surf in uncrowded waves. Ahhh bliss.

- BALMY SUMMER DAYS IN WINTER ARE A THING…
Take today, for example, a cruisy 21 degrees Celsius kinda day, yes it’s the middle of winter and we get these summer like feels. Imagine a London park on a hot summer day, it’s the equivalent except we flock to the beach on a hot winters day. But, we’re still wearing wetsuits, they’ll be your new best friend if you choose to winter surf with the Mojo crew.
- IT’S WHALE SEASON
Each year between May/June and September/October the far north coastline comes alonve with the spectacular acrobatic displays of humpback whales. After a summer of feeding in Antarctic waters, these charismatic animals migrate north to the sub-tropics where they give birth. They travel more than 10,000km return trip from Antarctica and around 2,000 humpbacks make the journey along the east coast.
Best viewing spots in the Northern rivers: The Lighthouse Byron Bay, Pat Morton lookout Lennox Head, Razorback lookout Evans Head.
- DISCOVER THE GLISTENING HINTERLAND IN THE WINTERTIME
Beyond the beach and Cape Byron Lighthouse and city centre, the beautiful green space surrounding Byron Bay offers plenty of opportunities to hike and see waterfalls, wildlife and gorgeous views.
Minyon Falls, part of the World Heritage Nightcap National Park, is a popular choice because of the 100-metre falls. Another beautiful waterfall, one of the tallest in the country, is Protesters Falls. While visiting this waterfall, be sure to look around for the Fleay’s barred frog, an endangered animal. Yet another great hinterland destination is the 1,100m high Mt. Warning. Located in Wollumbin National Park, Mt. Warning is about an hour from Broken Head Holiday Park, but many people say it’s worth the trip, especially if you do it at dawn so you can be among the first to see the sun in Australia from the top.
- THE NIGHTLIFE IS ALWAYS PUMPING WINTER & SUMMER
The Byron Bay Brewery is literally a stone’s throw from the Mojo Camp in Byron Bay, hosting some of the world’s best-known bands from The Ramones, Midnight Oil, Crowded House and Paul Kelly in the 80’s/90’s to Unwritten Law, John Butler Trio and local Byron Bay OG busker Ziggy Alberts more recently. The Brewery was the original site of the now world famous Byron Bay Blues fest.
Nightclub classics are still pumping with Cheeky Monkey’s & Woody’s a must visit during the winter months.
- THE MARKETS
The markets are a must do when you’re travelling through Byron Bay, breeze in to get your palm read or a crystal ball reading by our resident psychics…they’ll give you a mud map for life or at least tell you where the wind will blow you next on your journey down under.
