How will Mojosurf  act in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic?

Mojosurf was born and continues changing people’s lives 21 years on. The team was built with equally passionate people from Australia and the world over, drawn not by financial reward or promise but through the enthusiasm and commitment to people and the ultimate surf lifestyle on the planet. We are currently facing the challenge of our lives since the Covid-19 pandemic decisively impacted the way we did business.

One thing is certain, though. The waves continue to roll every day, and the campervan dream life remains alive. Our staff remains active and eager to welcome you, our campervans ready to hit the road and accommodations clean and safe to welcome you.

What are the measures implemented in Portugal?

“During the outbreak of pneumonia by the new Coronavirus – COVID-19 the Portuguese government has been taking all necessary public health measures to protect the entire population. The analysis of the evolution of the outbreak is constant and implementation of new measures will be carried out whenever necessary.

General behaviour guidelines were enacted, in which all people must adopt a social distance (2 meters) and the use of face masks is mandatory in public transport and services, shops and supermarkets, in closed spaces or in places with many people. In Madeira, the use of a mask is mandatory in all public places, closed or open.

In order to prevent the spread of the virus and the possibility of contagion, all services should take hygiene and sanitisation measures according to the indications of the Directorate-General for Health, with specific recommendations for various sectors of activity.  In tourism, the “Clean & Safe” seal, defined by Turismo de Portugal, was implemented, which allows tourists to have greater security and confidence in the use of accommodation establishments, in the various tourist services and tourist attractions.

Our guests and workers’ Health and Safety come first!

We’ve made several important decisions to safeguard the health and minimise contamination risks for all our customers and friends wishing to visit us who, at the same time, naturally, want to make sure they will be kept safe. Trust is only gained with a real and credible notion of security.

All our partners have adhered to the Clean & Safe certification, under the supervision of Turismo de Portugal [Portugal’s Tourism Board], thus following the strict specifications it requires.

Our staff will be properly prepared and informed to receive our guests according to the new reality we face. The Mojosurf Portugal staff has received specific training to bring them up to date on the best practices according to the official information outlined by the Portuguese Directorate-General of Health.

We regret that, sometimes, all the preventive and sanitary measures can cause some inconvenience and delays in the operation of the various activities available at Mojosurf. However, it’s important to point out that all these changes are legally mandatory in Portugal, in the end serving to mitigate any possible contamination.

Below we list the various changes that Mojosurf  has implemented, in its various areas of operation and in its different spaces, to cope with the Covid-19 pandemic.

What kind of accommodation is available?

In all our adventures several accommodations options are available: Indie Campers’ Campervan, Selina’s Hostels and Secret Mojo Farm. In all the options offered, our partners have adhered to the Clean & Safe certification, under the supervision of Turismo de Portugal [Portugal’s Tourism Board], thus following the strict specifications it requires.

“We’re taking extra measures to help contain the COVID-19 virus. We have implemented safety policies that aim to protect our employees (especially those at our operational locations) as well as our customers. How will our customers be transported?

Our Mojosurf transport van will obey the rule of transporting only 2/3 of the passengers in relation to the vehicle’s maximum capacity, the front seats being reserved only for the driver. Inside the vehicle, the use of a mask is mandatory. In our case, since we use 9-seater vans, we can carry 4 passengers plus the driver. After transporting a group in our vans, we proceed with its disinfection.

When driving your own Indie Campers’ Campervan, you can be assured that everything will be cleaned and disinfected. It will, however, be your responsibility to wash your hands, to make sure you’re travelling with people you trust and to make sure some social distance is kept.

How will you organise your surfing lessons?

All our surf schools partners comply with the Portuguese Surf Federation protection rules for COVID-19. What changes will there be in surfing lessons?

• Classes can have a maximum of five students per instructor and maintain a minimum distance of 4 meters between students and teachers;
• Promotion of the use of own material or if it is not possible to deliver the sanitized and disinfected material (boards, leash, suit and lycra) and guarantee a period of 72 hours before the next use; 
• Training on compliance with basic precautions for infection prevention and control;
• Training cannot include physical contact between participants and between participants and coach;
• The warm-up must be carried out with a distance of 4 meters from other students and coach;
• There is a rescue protocol in case it is necessary to help a student in difficulties.

What happens if Portugal or the country I am in goes into lockdown and I cant do the trip?
